Redesign
A new rough-sketch visual identity, homepage overhaul, reports section, and a handful of smaller refinements.
I've been slowly building toward a clearer visual direction for this site, and this update is where it finally clicks.
TLDR: redesigned the site to a more Benny-like aesthetic.

The rough aesthetic#
The whole site got a proper redesign, making everything feel more like an old OS / early point-and-click Flash game. The biggest change is a new hand-drawn border style applied throughout. Cards, panels, buttons, and image frames all have slightly imperfect, sketch-like outlines now, rendered using SVG turbulence filters. It's subtle, but it shifts the feel from a generic portfolio to something with a bit more personality, like a lot of my hand-drawn Benny-style games have.
The colours are the same. The layout is mostly the same. It's just the edges that changed.
Reports#
There's now a Reports section on the site. It's where I'll be publishing in-depth data-driven pieces: the kind of thing that takes weeks to research and doesn't fit neatly into a news post.
The first report is on speed cameras in Victoria. It looks at how the warning gap policy compares to the cost of fines, and who it ends up serving.
Games page#
The games page got a sidebar table of contents on desktop, and the featured game card now uses the same sketch-frame style as the rest of the site.
Removed: pixel font toggle#
The Silver pixel font toggle is gone. It was a fun experiment but it didn't really fit the direction the site is going. One less thing in the header controls.
Photo books#
Photo book cards are now square-cornered with sketch borders, matching the rest of the site's card style.
